route map: when we reach the red point , we are facing a mountain, Steinshnjukur, high 857m
The route starts from Kleifer, the old village in Olafsfjordur. It takes about 45 mins walk from the town to Kleifer. After entered the village, the hiking trails sign is located on the left hand side.
In 2012, I went through part of this route (as marked). After 3 hours hiking alone the coastal path, we entered into the valley, Fossdalur. Then, we route marks had gone and we faced the high mountain with snow covered. We decided to return.
Duration: around 6 hours for a round trip
highest point: around 600 meter
Highlight: light house, that's the point we can sit down and watch the whales and/or dolphins from the sea in distance
on the way it is always wet, wearing good/waterproof shoes are essential.

Olafsfjordur is located the peninsula of Trollaskaga. It is rounded by mountains with a lot of hiking trails suitable for different levels' travelers.
This summer there are 2 hiking maps published, Gönguleiðir á Tröllaskaga I and Gönguleiðir á Tröllaskaga II.
Gönguleiðir á Tröllaskaga Iis included Heljardalsheiði, Hólamannavegur and Hjaltadalsheiði, a inner part of the peninsula.Gönguleiðir á Tröllaskaga II is included the area of Fljót, Siglufjörður, Ólafsfjörður and Svarfaðardalur.
